About the Open Fusion Collective
The Open Fusion Collective (OFC) is a space where the public, academics and fusion developers can discuss how fusion energy affects society – now and in the future.
Covering social and ethical aspects of fusion energy research, development and deployment, the OFC is a movement striving for care, accountability and responsibility across fusion activities.
Here we open discussions on research governance, responsible innovation, deployment pathways, ethical implications, ecological considerations and socioeconomic sides of the technology. For example, issues around accessibility, long-livedness, or material supply chains.
Why?
The right time to think about the broader impact of fusion energy is during its development, not after it has been realised. That is why we believe it is important to complement the ideas of fusion researchers and fusion industry with the voices of the public and the insights of experts from social sciences and humanities. Only then can we create an energy technology that benefits everyone, both now and in the future.
Our Values
The OFC is open, inclusive and global. It welcomes anyone interested in the social dimensions of fusion energy development and how this technology could shape society in the future.
Inclusivity. Contributions are welcomed from all, regardless of background.
Accessibility. Contributions can take many forms, not just written ones, and we aim to use plain language, whenever possible.
Accountability. Ensuring that there is clarity and transparency in all processes - from editorial decisions to published research.
Get Involved
The OFC is a space for everyone to contribute. We welcome academic and research-focused articles, public commentary, debate and think pieces. You are also encouraged to experiment with different formats that best suit your skills and ideas!
